Running

Had a shitty week. Argh! I suck. Anyway, went to Central Park to run today. Gah! It was brutal. It was so hot. Hot, hot, hot. Decided to do two laps of the lower loop, it somehow didn't seem so overwhelming that way (also, the hills on that course aren't too bad). First loop went okay, but the second one, I really had to do a lot of walking. Really mostly because of the heat really. I just couldn't seem to make myself run much. Met up with Ellen, Ken and Daniel and we went to lunch afterwards. Once I got home, I saw the temperature was 96 degrees! That's... Ninety. Six. YIKES! The humidity was also over 80%. That'll teach me for going for a run at the hottest part of the day in Summer. At least there was beer afterwards.

Week 23

Running

It was a beautiful day, and the only one we're meant to have this week, if the weather reports are correct. I had somehow wrenched my neck and back yesterday, I'm still not even quite sure how I did it, so that all yesterday I couldn't look or turn around without involving my entire body. But, after heating pads, hot baths, and some ibuprophen, it felt a lot better by this evening. I ran in on Forest Park Drive, and then in on a different loop of the bridle path than I usually do. I was able to run for quite a while on this without walking, I even tackled a very steep hill without a rest. I then serpentined back around to the loop with my 3-tiered hill. Since I had already run quite a bit by the time I got to it, I wasn't so strong on the hill this time and had to take a walk break about halfway up. Still I completed it and ran down the other side and around the back of the loop. Once coming through on the middle path, back towards the asphalt drive, sharp stomach cramps hit and I knew that my run was over. I slowed to a walk, but every so often tried to run again, but each time the cramps would hit again (my own fault, ate too close to the run and not the right thing at all). At least I had managed to get most of my run in before this happened, so it still ended up being a good one. I didn't have my SDM with me, but I think this course is in the 3.5-4.0 range. Let's call it 3.5 because of the walking I had to do at the end. I'll measure it with the SDM some day.
