Running:

Running class tonight. This time it was repeats of three minutes running. I know it doesn't sound like much, but when you haven't been running consistently for a few years (and you're out of shape), it's a surprisingly long amount of time. I've run one marathon, countless half-marathons and other distance races, yet running for three minutes without walking is tough for me now. Amazing. But there is also something thrilling about it. I have some of that old excitement back. The excitement of being a new runner where every little accomplishment was a huge milestone. So I'm grateful for that. Next week we are being bumped up to intervals of five minutes of running -- yikes! I've got to make sure I get in a few running sessions between now and then.

Oh, in addition to class, I brisk-walked to class a mile each way, plus to and from the subway ( estimated distance about 3/4 of a mile each way) on the Queens side.

Running:

I ran on the treadmill in my apartment building's gym this evening. I followed the routine we did in running class last week, only I did more intervals and extended a few of them up to three minutes of running, rather than two. It is a bit of a risk to do a running workout tonight, since running class is tomorrow night and so I will be running again relatively soon. There is a risk of injury by running two days in a row at this level in my training, but class is really not all that strenuous, at least not yet, so I think the risk at this stage is relatively low.

I tried to follow the running with some time on the elliptical, but the machine didn't appear to be working properly. But I did do some upper body free weights and I am going to do some resistance bands in my apartment now.
