Ran a 10K (6.2 miles) in Central Park. It was slow, but I did it! Details on my main blog, Caustic Opportunity.

Spinning
Tonight was "Scary Spinning Class", but we were given a bit of a break because the air-conditioning in the room did not appear to be working properly, so I think Mean Spinning Instructor took it a bit easier on us. Or I took it a bit easier on myself. Or some combination of the above. At the end she apologized for the A/C situation and I muttered to Ellen, "I'm not sorry" (because as a result, Mean Spinning Instuctor wasn't so mean). Anyway, Ellen, Ken and I went out for beer afterwards. It was a hot night and a perfect one for a cold, adult beverage.

Week 16
Running:
Ran a race in Central Park in the pouring rain this morning. It was miserable and wet and cold and there were lots & lots of hills (including the biggest hill in CP -- Harlem Hill, or The Great Hill). The race was a 4.6K (for the 46th Anniversary of the NYRRC) which translates to about 2.8 miles. I did it in 33:11 minutes, according to the NYRRC website that's about a 11:51 mile pace. Not great, but I did a lot of walking on the middle mile, so the pace that I was actually running had to be a lot faster than that. If I can somehow slow myself down a little bit, I could maybe be able to run the whole thing, but then again, pacing was never my forte. I made an effort to run the Harlem Hill and was able to make it about half-way up before having to walk. The hills along the West Side Park drive also gave me some trouble so I did a run/walk thing here (lots of walking) however, I was able to run from the 2 mile mark to the finish without another walk-break(and I did it in around 9 minutes too), so I was happy about that. 4.6K sounded pretty short on paper, but it sure was long enough for me. Afterwards I met up with Ellen & Ken and we walked through the pouring rain down to Amsterdam Avenue and 81st Street for some brunch at Louies. It's basically taken me all day now to warm up from being out in the rain all morning. Oh, and I'm still happy with my new shoes -- wee!
