Running

Ran three miles on the treadmill today, just couldn't seem to motivate myself out to the park and I hadn't given the TM a whirl in a while so I figured it was the easiest solution. I don't know if I got tired because of the run, or because of the mind-numbing boredom of running on that thing, but that last mile or so was really, really tough. I think three miles is about my mental limit on a treadmill. Anyway, I'm glad I ran because I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow morning (woo!) and I wanted to make sure I earned it!

Spinning

Wasn't feeling so great today and so I was a bit relieved when today's spinning instructor announced that this evening's class wasn't going to involve a lot of climbing (resistance work) but would be more of an "endurance spin". Whatever that means. Turns out the class was surprisingly brutal. Hard, sprinting-and-standing intervals followed by short recoveries of 30 seconds. It ended up being pretty tough. Surprisingly tough. Made it through and was rewarded by a couple of beers afterwards.

Spinning

Scary Spinning Class tonight, and it was as brutal as always. Class was made even more scary by the fact that Mean Spinning Instructor decided to spend the entire class walking around the room (thus analyzing everyone's form and effort from every angle). Sadly, there was no beer afterwards.

Week 20

Running

Well, today's run didn't go quite as well as I had hoped it would, but I got out there and ran what I had planned to run, so I think that's the most important thing at this point. Came into Central Park and ran the 4-mile loop. Came in at West 86th Street, ran down and then across the 72nd Street Traverse and then up Cat Hill. This all went pretty well. Was able to run to the Bottom of Cat Hill without stopping and then, after a brief break, was able to run up Cat Hill in it's entirety. It was after all that that I really fell apart. It was hot, hot, hot (especially at 11 AM and in the direct sun on the East Side). I had to do a lot of walking, struggling to keep moving. So here it was spurts of running, alternated with walking. My legs also hurt so much. Both hips and both calves and, in particular, my lower right tendons above my ankle. Once I crossed back to the West Side through the 102nd Traverse, the run went a little better, even though it is generally hillier, because there is more shade here and I wasn't so overwhelmed by the sun baking on my head. On the West Side I made it a point to run up every hill, taking a walk break only once I reached the top of each. So, all-in-all a pretty brutal run for me. I was in pain and discouraged, but ultimately happy that I got out there and did it.
