Spinning
Wasn't too brutal tonight. No beer afterwards though. I've actually worked out 5 days in a row -- woo! Going to take a rest break tomorrow.

Running
I had a passing fancy today to go up to Central Park and run after work, but I was on the NYRRC website today and happened to notice that the Corporate Challenge was being held up there tonight, so I knew a run in CP wouldn't fly. So, instead, I walked down to my (spinning) gym on West 23rd, dropped my stuff off and walked over way West to the bike path alongside the Hudson River. It really is a beautiful night and the sun was still going strong when I got out there, it was delightful being along the river in the sunshine and enjoying the lower Manhattan skyline. I ran a steady pace out and back from Chelsea Piers, total running was in the 25 minute range. Not a lot, but it felt about right. I also had a good amount of walking on top of that with the walk to the bike path and back, as well as the walk to and from the gym. So, all in all, a nice change of scenery. My right shin was still pretty sore, but it felt a lot better than it did on Monday, so that's good, I guess (also, there were no hills on this route).

Spinning
Well, since they've fixed the a/c in the Spinning Room at the gym, Mean Spinning Instructor was back up to par and we were back to Scary Spinning with a full-on-push-like-crazy-til-your-last-possible-gasp workout. I was sweating so much it was rolling off my nose, in my eyes, you name it. I feel very smug and loose and cozy now though. Didn't want to go, but I'm glad I did it. Actually, I don't think I've ever regretted a workout. Except maybe that one 15 mile run in 90 degrees and 90+% humidity that had me so chafed I looked like I had been caught naked in a barbed-wire fence (making the shower afterwards a very interesting experience). Nope, don't even think I ever regretted that one.

Running
I set out to do the same route tonight that I did yesterday (particularly because the weather is still pretty nice), but the run did not go nearly as well. Everything was sore, particularly my right hip/knee/shin, so I cut the run even shorter and bailed out of the bridle path at the top of the big hill and back out onto the Park Drive (rather than continuing on and doing the bridle path loop). I did, however, wear my Nike SDM watch so I was able to measure what I did tonight as 2.04 miles inside the Park (almost 3 miles if you count the walk to the park to and from my apt), so I think yesterday's route was probably in the 3 mile range, give or take. Oh well, I got out there at least, they can't all be great runs.

Week 18
Running
Ran for about 40 minutes (plus about 20 additional minutes walking) in Forest Park today, up and down the hills on the Park Road and then in on the Bridle Path. I lack the endurance to go very far, but the short distances I do are definitely getting stronger, I just need to be more consistent and run more (and stop being such a weather-wimp). It was a beautiful day for a run, mid-70s, sunny with low humidity. Wish it could stay this way.
